Here are my check in notes from class:

Zoom Activity
The image that shows how I am in school is the picture with the person flying and airplane. This shows me because I have worked really hard so far this year and just like the pilot of the plane has worked hard to get to that moment. I still have not gotten to that moment. That moment for me would be graduation. I right now am still working up to that moment of being in the airplane and successful.

Social Media is the communication and interaction between people through technology in the world. An example of social media is twitter. On twitter yo are able to communicate with people all over the world. You are able to inform people of things that are going on quicker, faster, and easier. Twitter and any other social media have a big impact on society the days. Twitter can allow someone to talk to someone else from another part of the world. It has also had big impact on industries such as music artist and authors. On twitter they are able to promote things that they do so they had a fan base and are able to gain fans from all parts of the world. Social media as opened a lot of doors for people. Many people who have a twitter have there friends on there. social media has allowed not only teens but people of all ages to communicate with close friends and find friends they had lost touch with due to the lack of communication.

2/8/11-
Pros & Cons of Social Media
Pros:
1. More communication between friends and family
2. Be more aware of the world
3. Learn about new things
4. Do things quicker in a shorter amount of time
5. To inform the public

Cons:
1. Cyber bulling
2. Being stalked
3. Have your identity stolen
4. Rumors
5. False Information

Social Networking Discussion:
On a scale from one to ten of how important social networking is in my life I would say it's probably an nine. I definitely go on everyday but the time does vary. Some of the social networks I use are Skype, OoVoO, Facebook, and I text throughout the day. When I go on Facebook I talk to my friends and family that I don't get to see on an everyday basis. I think that the average teen spends 50 hours on a social networking site.

Who would be Time Magazine "Person of the Year"?
I think that Time Magazines person of the year should be the CEO of Apple Steve Jobs. I think he should be the person of the year because he has advanced human technology in a short amount of time. With the creation of the iphone4 he has been able to help people communicate better, faster, and easier.

Passage Finder:

"Who are these people? Seriously, who actually sits down after a long day at work and says, I'm not going to watch Lost tonight. I'm going to turn on my computer and make a movie starring my pet iguana? I'm going to mash up 50 Cent's vocals with Queen's instrumentals? I'm going to blog about my state of mind or the state of the nation or the steak-frites at the new bistro down the street? Who has that time and that energy and that passion?
The answer is, you do."

Check In-
I have posted a comment on a blog, posted a video to the web, and posted photos on the web. my grandparents have not done any of these things, but my mom has done at least two of these things. In the past customers and citizens were able to obtain this information by going to the actual person or store and you asked about a product or you asked someone a question personally.

" Chaos Scenario"
  • undermines mass media
  • advertising and media
  • we talk about companies to other people
  • Listenomics
  • Listen or Perish

"However, for the mainstream (aka Everyone Else In The World) the web remained a mysterious, slightly sad place where only-the-lonely gathered."
This stood out to me the most because he describes the web as a place where people who are lonely go on and interact through technology. He describes the web as place that is still unknown to the world.

2/16/11-
The term "the audience is taking to the stage" means that the people in the audience are creating things and starting to control the innovations and gadgets that are coming out. Us the people have more power now and more of a say.

  • we think
  • thanks to the web millions of people have a say
  • everyone is talking at the same time
  • new ideas come through conversations
  • 20th century= mass production for mass consumption
  • more ideas are shared
  • mass innovations comes from communities
  • its like building a bird nest where everyone leaves there piece.
  • we think therefore we are
  • freedom because more people will feel what its like to be creative
  • in the past you were what you owned
  • now you are what you share
  • knowledge
  • how do we protect what is private?

I think that we all do have a responsbility in reporting and publishing. When we publish the information that information will be used for more people out there wanting to know the same thing. When you report something it could mean two things that you let people know if there is something posted you don't like or if you report information about something. It is important that the information we share is true and not false so that people can obtain the correct information. Globalization will have a big part on out society and this could be one of the mot successful generation or the most damaging. I think after watching this i realized that we are responsible for the spread of ideas and the power of change is in our hands.

Notes on TED Video:
  • Ideas Worth Spreading
  • globalization is getting more complex
  • life expectancy has gone up 25 years.
  • inter-country Inequality
  • phones are more powerful than the computers
  • able to regenerate parts of the body
  • who will have the power to do that?
  • scientists created stem cells
  • An aging population in europe is changing
  • pension and retirement in 2030 will be gone
  • massive leap in migration
  • systemic risks
  • financial crisis
  • this could be the greatest generation or it could be the worst
  • one smart individual could create a bio-pathogen and be able to wipe out the population by 2030
  • globalization: intergraded fragility
  • revolutionary technologies: info- bio- nano
  • medical miracles

SOCIAL NETWORKING : OBSESSION or NECESSITY?: Cont.
There could have been possible danger in yesterdays story. when the girl went to search for her mom she couple have gotten requests from dangerous people. Instead of her mom finding her it could of been someone who wanted to kill her or something. Another danger was the person who obtained all the information and the person who actually found her not the daughter herself.

Notes on Facebook Obsession

Financial:
  • worth 50 billion dollars.
  • Microsoft offered 15 billion dollars to buy FB in 2007
  • Yahoo offered 1 billion dollars to buy FB
  • Goldman Sacs invested 500 million dollars in FB
  • FB took over the spot of being the most popular website in the U.S. which was formally held by google.

  • 1 in 12 people in he world utilize Facebook.
  • Now Facebook has 500 billion users.
  • 1.4 million is given by advertisers
  • Before Obama was president Facebook was blocked on al government computers.

Dangers
  • Facebook can change your privacy setting whenever they want.
  • Facebook has the power to control you.

3/2/11
SOCIAL NETWORKING : OBSESSION or NECESSITY?: Cont.
No I do not think the idea was stolen because as Mark says it it was really there idea they would have made it themselves. I think that Facebook holds too much personal information because one day if the system does crash then where does all that information go and to who does it then belong to. Another reason is that all this information can be directed into the wrong hands and that person who obtains all this information can accumulate so much power of the people and do what ever they want. I think that Facebook should be totally private to the people who are not your friends. I think that there shouldn't be consequences for the things you post as long as its not illegal.

3/3/11
SOCIAL NETWORKING : OBSESSION or NECESSITY?: Cont.
Yesterday I learned that Facebook makes the money though the people liking links and through the ads that companies pay to put up on Facebook for people to see. This is fair because it provides Facebook with money and the people with things that
attract them. I that the government can be active in social networking but I don't think that they have the right to monitor our conversations and what we do.

People are attracted to visualizations more than text because visualizations stand out more and people are usually more attracted to images and pictures. People find them more interesting and easier to figure out.

My topic was the Tsunami and Earthquake that hit Japan. I learned a lot about the after affects and how many nations are coming together to help Japan in a time of need. I also learned that due to all the natural disasters it has caused Japan to move 8 feet closer to the U.S.

The most important aspects with grading this project i think should be organization, fluency with the message, interesting and creative. It should be organized so its easy to obtain facts and look up information. The message the project should be fluent and clear to understand and it sticks to one topic. The most important is that it should be creative and interesting. it should grasp your attention and make you want to read more.

There should be forms of monitoring over social media because its not right that young kids are being bullied through the internet because what goes on the internet stays on the internet and it never goes away. In article one I read there was a 12 year old girl who was bullied by two formed friends. They called her horrible names and pretty much emotionally damaged her. I think that things like this are insane and that kids this young shouldn't be on social networks like this. In article two there was a boy in high school who ranked 50 girls. In the article it states he ranked them with, "explicit, derogatory nicknames and assessed their physical appearance, sexual desirability, sexual activity and other characteristics." He was expelled from school and then charged with juvenile disorderly conduct. In article five it talks about how kids came forward to the principal about a boy who was writing vague threats on his FaceBook page. He didn't threaten anyone personally but he was taken into custody.

Sports (Soccer)
The purpose of soccer is that it keeps people active and gives them something to do.
The beliefs of soccer is that lateness is not acceptable. Another is that you need to work as a team and be able to trust others on your team.
The rules of soccer are to work together and follow through with passes and the main goals are to score or prevent the other team from scoring.
The membership is both voluntary and involuntary because you can choose to join if you want to but once you do join you are expected to show up at all practices and games.

Family
The purpose of family is that you will always have people there to help you with what you need and are there no matter what.
The main belief of family is to have respect for others.
The rule of family is that nobody gets left behind or forgotten.
The membership of family is involuntary because you are born into your family and you are linked to them by blood.

Clubs
the purpose of clubs is to
